At this point in the pandemic, we can all agree that masks are a MUST no matter what and I'm for all of us are normal. We automatically grab our mask and hand sanitizer before leaving home or the car and I'm sure we all have a favorite type of mask to wear depending on the occasion.
While on quarantine, I created a lot of my content at home. I actually grew the most on my skills while in quarantine so that's a positive thing about it. But when the lockdown was over in Arizona, where I live, I wondered: "so now what?" "I'm not safe anymore at home, so how I'm going to stay safe?"
In the beginning, I had a lot of questions like all of you and I definitely learned along the way. Here is how I followed the precautions we all know in 2020 to keep me safe while still creating content outdoors.

Hand Sanitizer
I'm sure that, just like me, you have hand sanitizers in every single bag or place you go, am I right? Even if it's the hand sanitizer that has more glitter than alcohol, I always carried one everywhere I go and I used it:
Before and after handling my camera, especially if my fiancé was helping me with the photos
Before and after touching any surface
Before and after purchasing props, clothes and groceries at the store
So far, my favorite hand sanitizer is the spray type because it's so easy to use and last longer than the gel type. Here is my favorite from Green Supply, an Arizona based business that sells health and wellness products.
Green Supply hand sanitizer spray kills 99% of germs and can easily be carried with you to protect from harmful bacteria.
The Green Supply Hand Sanitizer Spray has extra-strength, it's FDA listing record certified, and it contains 75% alcohol and aloe.
These travel-size hand sanitizers are sold in a pack of 5 minimum and each one is 100 ml/3.4 oz.
Face Mask
Despite where you stand with wearing a mask, we all know IT IS A MUST. It keeps you and everyone else safe. When I'm shooting somewhere locally and more on the empty side, I wear my cloth face mask but, when I know where I'm going it's more on the crowded side (a restaurant, store, another city) I always use a KN95 mask.
In 2020, I did a few trips to other states. I traveled to Florida, Texas, and New York. This means I had to take a plane which is a high-risk area. While at first, I was incredibly nervous, these KN95 masks kept me safe and I always tested negative before and after traveling. Of course, only travel when it's necessary.
Wearing my mask absolutely all the time when I was out, except for a photo or actively eating or drinking. When I was taking photos with someone else than my fiancè, I would not remove my mask for the photo unless my photographer was at least 6-feet away, you know, that's when that superzoom comes in handy!
Please note that KN95 masks are not as effective as N95 masks that have been in short supply. But according to healthline.com these masks have been shown to be effective at limiting the spread of COVID-19.
I get my Black KN95 Masks from Green Supply. These 5 layer black KN95 masks come in boxes of 10 and feature around the ear loops and an adjustable nose bridge.
But, if black is not your color. They also have White KN95 Masks available.
Note that according to their site, these and other KN95 respirators have not been approved for healthcare workers. Please contact them directly for more information.
Social Distancing
We all know what social distancing means, but if you don't completely know here is a short social distancing description according to the CDC:
Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping a safe space between yourself and other people who are not from your household.
To practice social or physical distancing, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people who are not from your household in both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Before going somewhere, I'd do a quick research about the guidelines in the place I was going. If it's a restaurant, I'd check if there's indoor or outdoor dining available, in the airport I'd keep my distance in the lines, when shooting outdoor I'd arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds, and as I mentioned before, when I take photos with someone who is not my fiancè, I would not remove my mask for the photo unless my photographer was at least 6-feet away.
Protecting others around me
Always apply the same mentioned guidelines for my loved ones, including kids. At the moment I don't have kids but I have a nephew that I love a lot and when I see him, my sister always makes him wear a mask when we are outside.
If you are a mommy content creator and you are looking for Kids KN95 Masks for your children, Green Supply has you covered! Their kids' mask designs are super cute and colorful and they are the perfect size for their little faces.
Sold in packs of 20, these Pink Kids KN95 masks are made specifically for the smaller facial features of a child. Featuring the same 5-layer design and filtration as an Adult KN95 Mask, they have around the ear straps and an adjustable nose bridge allowing them to both seal and fit comfortably.
Please remember to change your KN95 face mask often and please, before throwing away the mask, cut the straps. This prevents small marine animals from getting stuck in it in case the mask ends in landfills close to the ocean.
I hope you found this helpful, and remember to practice the guidelines recommended by the CDC. This is what has been working for me and my content creation.
Happy shooting and stay safe out there!
